What you'll practise

  1. Total sales by store PivotTable
  2. Total sales by category PivotTable
  3. Average sale by store PivotTable

Total sales by store

A PivotTable summarises a long table for you, grouping matching rows and totalling them, with no formulas needed.

Put Store in Rows and Sales in Values, summarised by Sum, then click Build PivotTable.

Total sales by category

The real power of a pivot is how quickly you can rearrange it to answer a new question.

Show total Sales by Category instead of by Store.

Average sale by store

Values don't have to be totals. A pivot can also count, average, or find the highest or lowest value.

Show the average Sales for each Store.

Try it in a real spreadsheet

Every step checks your answer instantly and tells you exactly what to fix.
