What you'll practise

  1. Raise to a power with POWER
  2. Square root with SQRT
  3. Multiply a list with PRODUCT
  4. Whole times with QUOTIENT

Raise to a power with POWER

POWER does the same job as the ^ symbol, as a function.

=POWER(number, power)

In cell F2, raise the number in A2 to the power in B2.

Square root with SQRT

SQRT returns the square root: the number that, multiplied by itself, gives the value. The square root of 9 is 3.

In cell F2, find the square root of A2.

Multiply a list with PRODUCT

PRODUCT multiplies every number you give it, the way SUM adds them.

In cell F2, use PRODUCT to multiply the quantity in C2 by the price in D2.

Whole times with QUOTIENT

QUOTIENT divides and keeps only the whole number, dropping any remainder. Its partner MOD gives the remainder.

=QUOTIENT(9, 2) is 4.

In cell F2, find how many whole times 2 goes into A2.

Try it in a real spreadsheet

Every step checks your answer instantly and tells you exactly what to fix.
